Piano with Norbert is a small studio of conservatoire-trained piano teachers serving Harrow and the wider HA postcodes. We teach children, teenagers, and adults at our HA2 studio, in your home, or online. The approach is friendly, structured, and built around the individual student. Every teacher on our roster trained at a UK conservatoire and every teacher is DBS-checked. Whether your child is sitting at the piano for the first time, working towards an ABRSM or Trinity grade, or you are an adult who has always wanted to play, we will give you a clear plan and an honest read on how you are progressing.

Why Harrow families choose Piano with Norbert

Harrow has long taken music education seriously, and the standard of teaching here is rightly high. Our studio is part of that tradition. Our teachers are working musicians as well as teachers, which means students get someone who plays, performs, and continues to grow as a player, not someone who learned the basics and never went further. We focus on technique, sight reading, theory, and repertoire in the right proportions for each student, and we explain things plainly. Parents tell us the difference they notice quickly is communication, short notes after each lesson, clear practice instructions, and a teacher who answers questions properly.

What we teach in Harrow

  • One to one piano tuition for children, teenagers, and adults
  • ABRSM and Trinity grade preparation, Grades 1 to 8
  • Music theory tuition, individually or in small groups
  • Jazz and pop piano, chord work and improvisation
  • Piano accompaniment for singers and instrumentalists
  • Online piano lessons by video for added flexibility

Who our Harrow students are

Around two thirds of our students are children, from age four through to sixth form. About a third are adults, often beginners who finally decided to start, or returners who put the piano down at Grade 3 or Grade 5 years ago and want back in. We work with all of it. Lessons are paced to the individual, repertoire is chosen with you, and there is no shaming of beginners or pretence about what good progress looks like.

Lessons at our studio, in your home, or online

Our studio is at 65 Dorchester Avenue, HA2 7AX, with a Yamaha grand. We travel for in-home lessons across the HA postcodes for a small location-based fee. Online lessons run by video and work from anywhere in the UK. Many families mix the formats through the year, in-person in term-time and online during holidays or when life gets busy. The teaching standard does not change with the format.

ABRSM, Trinity, and RSL exam preparation

We prepare students for ABRSM, Trinity, and RSL exams across all grades. Over 90 percent of students we enter pass with merit or distinction, because we only enter a student when they are properly ready. Preparation covers pieces, scales and arpeggios, sight reading, aural, and theory. For ABRSM Grade 6 and above, theory is a prerequisite, and we cover that in the lessons or in dedicated theory sessions if that is your preference.

What Harrow families say

Honest answers

The questions Harrow families ask

How young can my child start piano lessons in Harrow?

+
From four years old. What matters more than the exact age is whether your child can sit at the keyboard for around twenty minutes and shows genuine curiosity. We will give you an honest view after the trial lesson.

Do you teach adult beginners?

+
Yes, and we enjoy it. About a third of our students are adults, many of them complete beginners. With steady short practice of fifteen to twenty minutes a day, most adult beginners are playing real pieces within the first month.

Do you teach in our home, or only at the studio?

+
Both. The studio is on Dorchester Avenue, HA2 7AX. We also travel for in-home lessons across HA1 to HA8 for a small travel fee that varies by exact location. Tell us your postcode when you enquire and we will confirm.

How quickly will my child make real progress?

+
Most beginners play a real piece by the second or third lesson. By the end of a first year of weekly lessons with steady practice, many students are ready to sit ABRSM, Trinity, or RSL Grade 1.
