Online piano lessons, taught live

Real one-to-one lessons with conservatoire-trained teachers, from your own front room. Beginners to Grade 8, all ages, anywhere in the UK.

Your first lesson is free — no card, no catch

A grand piano in the Piano with Norbert studio, where online lessons are taught

Good online piano teaching is not a watered-down version of the real thing. With the camera on your hands and a teacher watching in real time, it is the same lesson, minus the travel. That is why so many of our adult students, and a growing number of families, now learn entirely online.

We are based in Harrow, but online lessons mean your postcode no longer decides who teaches you. You get a conservatoire-trained teacher, a proper plan, and the same standards we hold in the studio, wherever you happen to live.

How online lessons work

All you need is a piano and a phone

A digital piano or keyboard, plus a phone, tablet or laptop on a stand. We help you set the angle so your teacher sees your hands and the keys clearly. That is the whole kit.

Live, one-to-one, over Zoom

Never pre-recorded and never an app. A real teacher, in real time, watching how you play and correcting it as you go, exactly as they would sitting beside you.

The same structure as in person

Repertoire, technique, sight-reading, theory and exam prep, planned the same way. You get written practice notes after every lesson, so the week between lessons is productive.

Exams work online too

We prepare ABRSM, Trinity and RSL grades online, including the newer remote performance exams. Over 90% of our students pass with merit or distinction.

Who online lessons suit

Busy adults

Lessons in the evening from your own front room, no travel either side. The most common reason adults finally start, and stick with it.

Families anywhere in the UK

Your child learns from a conservatoire-trained teacher wherever you live, with a parent able to sit in from the sofa.

Returning players

Picking the piano back up after years away, at a pace that fits around work and life, without the school-run logistics.

Common questions about online lessons

Do online piano lessons actually work?

+
Yes, genuinely. Once the camera shows your hands and the keys, a teacher can see and correct technique, posture and timing just as they would in person. Our online students sit the same exams and pass at the same high rate. The one thing that matters most is a stable internet connection and a device on a stand rather than held in the hand.

What equipment do I need?

+
A digital piano or weighted keyboard (88 keys is ideal), and a phone, tablet or laptop you can prop up to show your hands and the keyboard. Earphones help the audio. That is all. We will talk you through the best camera angle in your first lesson.

Can children learn piano online?

+
Many do, very well, especially with a parent nearby for the first few lessons. For very young beginners we will give you an honest view at the trial about whether online or in person suits them better.

How much do online lessons cost?

+
Your first online trial lesson is completely free — no card needed. After that, regular online lessons are priced the same as our in-person lessons, with 30, 45 and 60-minute slots. Full pricing is on the Lessons & Fees page. There is no long contract.

Where in the UK do you teach online?

+
Anywhere. We are based in Harrow, north-west London, but online lessons reach students across the whole of the UK and beyond. Time zone permitting, we teach international students too.

Who would my teacher be?

+
A conservatoire-trained member of our team, matched to your goals and style. Many online students learn with Declan, a BIMM London honours graduate who teaches classical and contemporary piano. You meet your teacher at the trial and we make sure the fit is right.
